The Art Van Damme Quintet with Johnny Smith on Guitar: A Perfect Match Johnny Smith Johnny Smith's Kaleidoscope Phase II Legends: Solo Guitar Performances The Complete Roost Johnny Smith Small Group Sessions Jeri Southern Meets Johnny Smith

In addition to Johnny Smith’s substantial Roost catalog between 1952 and 1964, releases in his own name on other labels during this period included Jeri Southern Meets Johnny Smith, which was issued in 1958 on Morris Levy’s Roulette label shortly after he had acquired Roost from Teddy Reig, and A Perfect Match with the Art Van Damme Quintet, which was released on Columbia in 1963.

Later, in 1967 and 1968, Johnny Smith recorded three albums for Verve - Johnny Smith, Johnny Smith’s Kaleidoscope and Phase II.

In 1994, Concord Records issued Legends: Solo Guitar Performances. This CD featured solo chord-melody performances by Johnny Smith (first half of the CD) and George Van Eps (second half of the CD). Smith’s contribution to this album, which he had recorded privately in 1976, demonstrated his astonishing virtuosity and his uniquely broad range of repertoire. Most notably, it included classical guitar pieces played with the plectrum on an unamplified archtop guitar.

In 2002, Mosaic Records issued The Complete Roost Johnny Smith Small Group Sessions as a limited edition, 8-CD, box set. This collection gathered together the guitarist’s Roost catalog, with the exception of his three albums with singers and two albums with orchestral accompaniment. Unfortunately, the highly treasured Mosaic box set is no longer available.
